Neural engineering
Neural engineering research at Carnegie Mellon University combines strengths in fundamental engineering, artificial intelligence, and micromechanical device design with fundamental and applied neuroscience. This interdisciplinary work is supported by collaborations with research partners including the Neuroscience Institute and the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition, as well as close ties with clinical partners.
Research in neural engineering spans fundamental and computational mechanistic research and the development of new systems neuroengineering technologies for sensing, imaging, and modulating the nervous system. Applications include brain-computer interfaces, neural stimulation devices for sensory and motor prostheses and basic science research, and neural recording and imaging devices operating across micro- to macro-scales.
